This is so easy to make - mix 1/2 teaspoon of matcha powder with a little cold water in a cup. Add hot plant based/rice milk (I used brown rice milk), a little vanilla essence and maple syrup or agave to sweeten, if you like. Stir and enjoy.
Matcha is a finely ground powder and is a potent green tea and is traditionally used as part of the Japanese tea ceremony and by buddhist monks before long hours of meditation.
Matcha does contain caffeine but it also contains higher levels of antioxidants per gram than goji berries, dark chocolate, pecans, acai berries and even spinach. Matcha is known to enhance a feeling of calm thanks to the presence of the amino acid L-Theanine and another side effect of this amino acid is a boost in memory and concentration.
Samurai, the noble warriors used to drink matcha before going into battle to boost their energy levels.
Matcha tea is commonly used to detoxify the body and help to protect the body against free radicals and it's full of polyphenols and flavonoids.
According to the 8th century Zen priest Eisai, who introduced the tea to Japan, "matcha is the ultimate mental and medical remedy and has the ability to make one's life more full and complete."
Either way, this latte tastes amazing!
