Bobbi Brown is an internationally acclaimed make up artist, best selling author and an incredibly successful business woman. Her new book Beauty From The Inside Out shares Bobbi's philosophy on subjects like nutrition, diet, sleep, fitness and self confidence, so this is a book we love. We were delighted and a little star struck when she agreed to an interview for DHB. Here you go...
Bobbi, it's great to meet you. What inspired you to get into the beauty business and how did you start out?
I fell in love with make up at a very early age. I would always watch my mother, who was so elegant putting on her lipstick and eyeshadow. Then I found Emerson, a place where I could study what I loved.
Where do you get your work ethic from?
My Papa Sam. I loved going to work with him, watching him build his car dealership.
Has your success surprised you?
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own business?
Stop talking and just start doing.
How do you run your empire without having a meltdown?? How do you make time for yourself and what's your favourite way to relax?
Sometimes I have a meltdown and feel overwhelmed but then I know that it's time to take a break and reset, whether that’s at home or on vacation.
Can you describe your perfect weekend?
My perfect weekend is spent with my family, where I am not wearing any make up - just eating good food and hanging out.
If your 15 year old self was to give you a piece of beauty advice, what would that be?
Always take care of yourself. Build your muscles and learn how to blow dry your own hair!
Do you have any regrets?
Only that I over tweezed my full eyebrows when I was younger and they don't grow back!
What's your favourite Bobbi Brown product and do you have a ‘can't live without’ beauty product that isn't Bobbi Brown?
I'm not with the brand anymore but still use my EXTRA Balm SPF 25.
Top health and beauty tip? How do you stay feeling energised, fit and healthy?
Drink LOTS of water, eat leafy greens and consume good quality food in small amounts. Don't be afraid to have a treat like a drink or a piece of dark chocolate.
Do you love to cook and if so, do you have a favourite healthy chef and go to recipe book?
I love to open up my fridge and chop up fresh veggies with garlic and hot peppers over zucchini pasta or quinoa. I love the recipes in my latest book, Beauty From the Inside Out.
What would be your last supper?
French bread and butter and a martini.
Where in the world do you go to completely relax?
The Bahamas or a health spa.
Finally, what do you hope the future holds for you?
To create a great lifestyle brand.
