Natural Dental Products
I changed our dental products a long time ago and feel happier using natural toothpaste and products which are made of natural ingredients.
These products still work hard to remove plaque, dissolve stains and freshen breathe but don't contain any nasties like parabens, phthalates, foaming agents and harsh abrasives. They're made up of healing and breath freshening ingredients like aloe vera, tea tree oil, calendula, arnica, peppermint and spearmint instead.
Our kids use the strawberry flavoured Aloe Dent, which they love.
Marigold mouthwash by Napier's contains a blend of herbs and essential oils traditionally reputed to have antibacterial and antifungal properties and is also excellent.
I use Coco White sachets for teeth whitening. Coco White have cleverly based their products on the ancient Indian tradition of oil pulling. Oil pulling involves swishing coconut oil around your mouth for 5 - 10 minutes but Coco White have created the perfect dose per sachet, making the whole process a little more convenient.
Here's some more information from Coco White about their product:
The bacteria in the mouth create a “biofilm” on the teeth – a thin layer that they use to adhere to the surface. This is what we know as “plaque.” Having some plaque on your teeth is normal, but if it gets out of hand it can cause all sorts of problems, including bad breath, yellow teeth, gum inflammation, gingivitis and cavities.
The way oil pulling works is simple. When you swish the oil around your mouth, the bacteria “get stuck” in it and dissolve in the liquid oil.
Basically, you remove a large amount of the bacteria and plaque in your mouth each time you practice oil pulling.
My friend Jen* brought this Monkey Brand Black Tooth Powder back from Sri Lanka for me and it's another teeth whitening product which I love. It's a black blend of ayurvedic herbs and essential oils mixed in finely ground wood charcoal. This wood charcoal acts as a natural bleach, which gently removes stains, while the natural herbs and oils promote the health of your gums.
*Jen has a yurt in her garden on the Archerfield Estate, East Lothian, Scotland and runs the most incredible kundalini yoga, meditation classes, she works with herbal medicine, aromatherapy and reiki. Her massages are heavenly. Just incredible. She has a three hour massage called the Paradiso (yes. Three hours), which costs £90 and is the most relaxing experience imaginable.
