The spring equinox is a perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, the feeling of more energy and to celebrate the beauty and power of nature.
It's also a great time to spring clean and I spent the day cleaning and decluttering our house, then burnt some sage, palo santo and incense to finish off.
Palo Santo is a natural wood, which has been used for hundreds of year in the Andes as a spiritual remedy for purifying and cleansing.
Smudging or burning dried white sage sage is an age old ritual which is used to cleanse the energy field of a person or space and some people believe that conflict, anger and evil can be absorbed by the sage, then released via the smoke. I like to use sage after cleaning the house, before meditation, if there have been any arguments or if we're celebrating new beginnings. I have a good friend who's a masseuse and she burns sage after every client leaves her massage room, to cleanse her space.
Incense sticks have been used for many centuries to cleanse, to provide a feeling of tranquility and can help to create a lovely space for meditation and yoga.
